UDA at the Forefront of Digital Diplomacy: Amath Ndiaye at the 14th African Internet Governance Forum

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – From May 29 to 31, 2025, the 14th African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) convened high-level leaders, policymakers, technologists, and diplomats from across the continent to address the future of Africa’s digital landscape. Held at the prestigious Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, the forum served as a critical space for intergenerational dialogue, ministerial roundtables, and collaborative policy design on the continent’s digital transformation.

Representing the United Diplomats of Africa (UDA), Amath Ndiaye, UDA’s Head of Partnerships and Ambassador of Senegal, attended the forum as a delegate engaging in high-level discussions that spanned five major thematic areas:

• Digital Public Infrastructure

• Data Governance

• Cybersecurity, Resilience and Trust

• Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies

• Universal Access & Meaningful Connectivity

These pillars reflected the urgent need to foster inclusive digital growth while reinforcing Africa’s agency in global digital governance.

During the opening ceremony on 30 May, regional ministers and stakeholders aligned on the importance of digital sovereignty, equitable infrastructure access, and collaborative frameworks to counter cyber threats. The AfIGF’s key objective was to consolidate Africa's voice ahead of international digital dialogues, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 20th United Nations Internet Governance Forum and the WSIS+20 Review.

In his address, Amath Ndiaye highlighted UDA’s commitment to supporting multilateral efforts that drive sustainable digital diplomacy and infrastructure equity across the continent. He further underscored the importance of youth-led organisations like UDA in bridging policy and population, especially among underserved communities.

As UDA continues to expand its footprint globally, forums like AfIGF remain key arenas for positioning African youth as architects of the continent's digital and diplomatic future. The organisation applauds the efforts of all participants and looks forward to further engagement in shaping a digital Africa that is secure, inclusive, and sovereign.
