Topic: Youth Civic Engagement – Shaping Governance through Innovation and Policy

Notable Member ResponseBy Salma El-Masri, UDA Member from Egypt

"North Africa has long been a region where youth voices are politically potent, and that remains true today. Across Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco, we’re seeing the next generation move beyond protest into structured civic innovation—using tech tools to monitor public service delivery, propose local policy improvements, and even run for municipal office. I’m part of a civic-tech collective in Cairo that builds mobile apps to help communities report municipal issues. But what we need most now is sustainable funding, mentorship, and inclusion in national dialogues—not just token consultation. When young North Africans are seen as collaborators in governance, not just commentators, our region will finally begin to unlock its potential."
